festive guest in your nest

2012
12.10

The majority of us who live far from our home towns can expect one of two scenarios over the Christmas period: staying in someone else’s nest or having guests stay at yours. With the global idea of family extending out to friends, good hosting skills can make or break a visit. Your family might forgive you the foibles of being in your comfort zone, but friends do not need to (nor should they have to).

I recently did a piece for my day job about how to be a good house guest at the holidays, so to balance out the perspective, and with the impending delight of hosting my best friend from university and her fiancée this Christmas (Social Nesting guests #42 and #43 in the last 19 years), I thought I would do a little guide to being a good host*.
