It’s not just the home for shelves, pictures, art (or even peg board) anymore. Put your all to the wall with a gallery that solves the decorating quandary of an over-bright space by employing a tableau of china too delicious and decorative to eat off…
Far be it from us to complain about too much light, but a blaring blast from a skylight can make putting up art a tricky ordeal.
Social Nesting HQ has a stairwell and a skylight now, and while it’s stunning, it can be bad for whatever artistic endeavours end up on the sun drenched wall.
Alas, this square of light traverses the landing throughout the day and, while the sun is super for vit-D boosts and a whisper of glowing skin (in moderation, mind), it can be damaging to paintings and pictures, causing discolouration and – much like human overexposure – premature ageing. Gasp.
So unpacking our collection of plates was the solutions…
While we are fans of the mix-and-match – hanging plates old and new in amongst our paintings, prints and pictures – the needs-must of this wall space means we had to create a collection that was all ceramic all the time.
They would still suffer a hint of exposure, but certainly won’t take the battering of their paper-based wall art cousins.
So up went our collection…
…composed of the cheap and charming likes of West Elm (Welcome Home, above, and Wish and owl below), the playfulness of Donna Wilson (the sun) and Jimbob Art (the bear), Zara Home (the hare) and a couple of vintage beauties.
To fill in the smaller spaces and add another dimension, the vignette is peppered with dot wall vases (yes, those are real vases filled with water and real flowers) from Serax and porcelain knobs from Bloomingville that all come together to make this one happy landing…
…and can be lit up by the sun without a worry.

What a great and beatiful solution… I would love to do something similar in the livingroom. Love the vases
