Where do you put your Snoopy-obsessed godson when he comes for a week-long visit?

Turn an IKEA desk, a cardboard box and some dollar store wrapping paper into a dream-come-true guest bed…

We are blessed here at Social Nesting HQ to have a pretty decent guest room and have housed a number of special friends. And our most recent impending visitor sparked an idea that started with B’s desk.

The IKEA Micke desk is the perfect tiny workspace-cum-guest-room-surface for the occasional work from home situations, but it mostly goes unused. I wonder if it ever dreamed of the transformation that was coming…

So the visiting godson has long been a Peanuts super-fan. The love, inherited from his mother, spans every incarnation of Snoopy and the gang. Naturally when discussing where we would put him, it wasn’t long before the desk turned into Snoopy’s doghouse in my mind.

The single blow-up mattress we had fit perfectly underneath, so off I set with cardboard, tape and red giftware from the dollar store.

I am not going to teach the obvious here – any crafter worst their salt (and willing to do this themselves) can figure out how to cut up a cardboard box, secure it to a desk, and wrap it. I am here merely to provide a hint of inspiration.

A few wooden letters and some squiggly lines with a Sharpie et voila! A bed that gave our little visitor a dream place to rest his little jet-lagged head.

We get a sweet answer to some fabric prayers in the form of a new online shop to which we are already addicted…

Dailylike banner

Having just today received our second Dailylike order, we realized we were so behind on sharing how much we loved our first order, and, well, how much we are loving Dailylike in general.

Dailylike

So what we were praying for came as the result of a trip to Hanji – the Toronto emporium for beautiful stationery, cards and general Far East Asian loveliness – where a small collection of Dailylike products first caught our eyes.

We longed for more from this adorable collection of fabrics and notions, and started a Google hunt for more, only to find it is a Korean brand that, until recently, we could only see available in Korea.
So we prayed to the craft gods.

We waited… and Googled… and waited some more… and Googled some more. And then in March, our Googling found Dailylike.ca! In seconds we were emailing them with a request for a particular fabric design (what has since become order number 2) and the lovely Sara was emailing us back with answers.

Order number one – a mixed bag of fun stuff – was placed that day, and arrived as follows:

Dailylike products

Composed of a dive into the unique and wonderful product range,  it was both stuff that had a purpose…

Dailylike

Like this set of two Evening Bride kitchen mats – a sophisticated print for a practical, wipe-clean everyday mat.

And crafty supplies that had no purpose just yet, but we kinda had to have…

Dailylike

Like these Evening Bride resealable bags (as we are suckers for a cellophane bag), and these Nature Leaf and White Night fabric stickers, which we think are just genius.

We were hooked by the beautiful products and then anchored by the great customer service. Sara continued to get in touch and let us know not only that our desired fabric was in, but that it would be on sale for a limited time. So order number two was placed. But more on that later.

In the meantime, explore Dailylike.ca, their Australian cousin Dailylike.com.au, and if you are lucky enough to speak Korean, Dailylike.co.kr, which actually has a vast range of super fun stuff that we can only hope their Canadian and Australian affiliates will one day get us access to!

All we can do is keep praying. It worked the last time…

In a previous post I mentioned that my friend Christine was working on a top secret book project. Well the secret is out and Christine and her crafting partner Hannah have finally completed Everything Alice; the Wonderland book of Makes. And oh my, does it look AMAZING!

The book, out in July via the good folks at Quadrille, features a hefty array of fantastical original projects, bright ideas and baked deliciounesses that will appeal to those who dream of falling down a rabbit hole into a world of doable make-believe. The whimsy of Lewis Carroll is channelled via paper and glue, fabric and flour, and is as thoughtful and fun as it is beautifully styled and designed. Pre-order it now here, and check out the accompanying website, everythingalice.co.uk – which promises a stationery range in the autumn (yay!) and loads of other fun stuff.

Super well done ladies!

Everything Alice, by Hannah Read-Baldrey and Christine Leech, available 4th July, 2011 via Quadrille
