Elias shows you how to single-handedly tackle a simple take on knitting (without a needle in sight)…

Like any new craft we are about to tackle, we went to town collecting yarn and needles in anticipation of all the creative knitting projects we had on the brain. Then we realized that it takes forever to accomplish even the simplest knitting project (let alone the fuchsia mohair onesie we had planned), and after dropping our thousandth stitch, we abandoned traditional knitting for good.

That did leave us with a surplus of beautiful yarns, and truly, there were only so many reindeer heads we could wrap before it started to get creepy.

Thank goodness, then, for finger knitting. We were so surprised not to have come across it sooner, and even more surprised that more of our friends were equally unaware of what a fab five-finger funniest finger knitting truly is! So here, friends, is our two minute guide to using up that yarn!

He’s at it again, and this time with one of our oldest and most favourite quick transformations.

The first time we did this was over 20 years ago and we had loads of fun with it on our decorating trip to Australia. We guarantee the speed, ease and impact of this project never fails to impress.

One of the best parts of putting together our Two Minute Tips video was finally getting to share the bespoke ditty that was custom composed for Social Nesting. The tune, called Elias’ Theme, was a labour of barter concocted by the lovely Rebecca Davies of Thickets. She was given carte blanche to create a tune imbued with the Social Nesting vibe, and she nailed it…

So where does the barter come in?
Rebecca and I crossed paths at my last job and at one point, she turned to me for a bit of technical help when she was working on a personal project. A couple of lunch hours later and we had achieved her goal. When she asked how she could thank me, it didn’t take me long to say “I want a piece of music…”

You see, she had previously brought in her autoharp – the instrument that provides the hauntingly sweet tune – and when I heard it, I was entranced. So she went away and came back with the musical backbone of our new web series.
It gives us no end of pleasure to have a tune of our own, and to have earned it by helping someone makes us even more tickled by it.

Here is the entire tune for your enjoyment:

…or catch it as part of the Two Minute Tips series.

Rebecca’s band, Thickets, kick out some equally haunting modern folksy tunes. This is one of my faves:

  • needle&thread

  • paper&ink

  • love'it&covet
